Carpenter Apprenticeship

Carpenter Role Overview:

A Carpenter is a highly skilled tradesperson responsible for the precise and compliant construction and installation of specialized components for AVM Group’s cleanroom, dry room, and radiation shielding vault projects. This role requires extensive travel to various project sites across the country, demanding exceptional carpentry skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strict adherence to specific contamination control and safety protocols inherent in controlled environments and radiation protection. You will be a critical part of the field team, ensuring the highest quality of installation and contributing directly to the successful completion of highly specialized projects.

 

Key Responsibilities – Apprenticeship Duties

Training

  • Classroom Instruction (4-Year Commitment): Attend 1 full week (40 hours) of intensive block-schedule training every quarter (160 hours/year).
  • Primary Ohio Training Facilities for the Carpenter Apprentices:
    • Richfield Campus (Northeast OH): 4100 Maple Dr, Richfield, OH 44286
    • Columbus Campus (Central OH): 1899 Arlingate Ln, Columbus, OH 43228
    • Monroe Campus (Southwest OH): 361 Breaden Dr, Monroe, OH 45050
    • Rossford Campus (Northwest OH): 9270 Bass Pro Blvd, Rossford, OH 43460
  • On-the-Job Training: Carpenter Apprentices will complete 2,000 hours of paid, on-the-job training annually under experienced Journeymen.

Apprenticeship Program Requirements

 Enrollment Eligibility

  • Minimum 17 years of age to apply (18 to begin work on job sites).
  • Must pass a mandatory pre-employment and random substance abuse screening. 
  • Must secure an “Intent to Hire” letter from an approved union signatory contractor to receive a work permit card and begin orientation.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various job sites and regional training centers.

 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform demanding physical labor in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work at elevated heights.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial reasoning.

Required Documents During Application

  • Legal work authorization: Valid state-issued photo ID, birth certificate, and legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • Education: High school diploma, GED equivalent, or documentation of 1,500 hours of trade work experience.
  • DD214 form (for military veterans applying via Helmets to Hardhats).

Compensation

Base Rates

As of May of 2026, the current taxable Journeyman Carpenter base rates in Ohio range from approximately $39.54/hour depending on the regional zone/county. 

Fringe Benefits

The total package exceeds $65.11/hour when including employer-paid health insurance (medical, dental, vision) and pension/annuity contributions. 

Wage Scale Progression

Carpenter Apprentices receive a bi-annual percentage progression of the full Journeyman wage scale, based on completing required work hours and training blocks.
