MatterVault is AVM’s engineered vault system, designed to provide compliant shielding for X-ray, gamma, and neutrons, from low- to high-energy sources. Each system is fully tailored to your facility’s required energy levels, layout, and workflow.
Every MatterVault includes our precision-built MatterDoor™, engineered to the specified lead or steel equivalency required for your modality and safety classification. Fully configurable, MatterVault adapts to any facility’s shielding needs.

Types of MatterVaults
Concrete-Shielded Vaults
When a high level of radiation shielding is required, our lead brick, polyethylene, concrete block, high-density (HD) block or poured-in-place (PIP) concrete MatterVault is best. Designed to shield no matter the energy level.
Lead-Shielded Vaults
For medium-energy shielding applications, we can design MatterVaults with leaded substrates, including steel, leaded drywall and plywood, or even leaded brick. Our patented circular MatterVault also works well. Filled with sand, this design is modular, and easy for you to change and modify over time.
Modular Pre-Built Vaults
ModularVaults consist of our patented round vaults filled with sand or MatterWalls that are a lead-lined laminated wall system. Our modular vault systems can utilize existing space with the ability to relocate in the future as requirements change.

How does a modular MatterVault® compare to a traditional concrete vault in shielding performance?
MatterVault® systems are engineered to meet the same NRC, NCRP, and ASTM shielding requirements as poured concrete vaults. The difference is in how the shielding is delivered — custom-manufactured, density-controlled panels instead of variable on-site pours. The result is consistent shielding performance without the curing delays, overbuild, or space penalties associated with concrete.
What radiation levels can a MatterVault® safely contain?
MatterVault® systems are engineered to match your exact energy levels and application requirements ranging from low-energy NDT testing to high-dose accelerator environments. Each design meets NRC, NCRP, and ASTM shielding standards for your specified range.
Will the vault integrate with our equipment and workflow?
Yes. We design around your specific equipment: source placement, beam paths, conveyor systems, manipulators, robotics, or inspection lines to ensure easy integration and safe operator flow.
What happens if we upgrade our equipment to higher energy levels later?
