Traveling Construction Superintendent

Role Overview: The Traveling Construction Superintendent is a critical leadership role responsible for the overall on-site management and execution of construction projects across AVM Group’s specialized divisions. This position demands a highly experienced and proactive individual with exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills. The Traveling Construction Superintendent will directly manage and schedule all craft personnel, oversee on-site field operations, ensure adherence to project schedules, maintain safety and quality standards, and serve as a key point of contact for field-related activities across multiple projects and divisions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. On-Site Leadership and Management:

  • Provide strong and decisive leadership to all craft personnel (carpenters, laborers, etc.) assigned to their projects, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and high performance.
  • Direct and coordinate the daily activities of craft personnel to ensure efficient and productive work execution.
  • Clearly communicate project goals, tasks, and expectations to craft teams.
  • Resolve on-site conflicts and personnel issues effectively and professionally.
  • Enforce company policies, work rules, and safety regulations among all craft personnel.
  • Mentor and develop craft personnel, identifying training needs and fostering skill growth.
  1. Project Scheduling and Coordination (Field Focus):

  • Develop and maintain detailed daily and weekly work plans for craft personnel, aligning with the overall project schedule.
  • Coordinate the sequencing of work for different craft teams to ensure efficient workflow and minimize conflicts.
  • Proactively monitor progress against the schedule at the field level, identifying potential delays and implementing corrective actions in coordination with Project Management.
  • Communicate schedule updates and any potential impacts to the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that necessary materials, equipment, and tools are available on-site in a timely manner to support scheduled activities.
  1. Safety Management (Field Implementation):

  • Champion and enforce AVM Group’s safety culture and all project-specific safety plans on every job site under their supervision.
  • Conduct regular and comprehensive site safety inspections, identifying and immediately addressing potential hazards.
  • Lead daily and weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks with craft personnel.
  • Ensure all craft personnel utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Investigate any safety incidents or near misses and implement corrective and preventative actions at the field level and follow company policy for reporting incidents to management.
  1. Quality Control (Field Implementation):

  • Oversee the execution of the project-specific Quality Control Plan by craft personnel.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the work performed by craft teams to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and AVM Group’s quality standards.
  • Provide clear direction and feedback to craft personnel on quality expectations and workmanship.
  • Identify and document any deficiencies in craft work and ensure timely and effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and Quality Manager to address and resolve quality-related issues.
  1. On-Site Communication and Coordination:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for all on-site field-related matters across their assigned projects.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with Project Managers, other Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients on-site.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between different craft teams and subcontractors working on the same project.
  • Participate in project meetings as the field representative, providing updates on craft activities and progress.
  1. Resource Management (Field Level):

  • Manage and allocate craft labor resources effectively across assigned projects to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Track and manage the utilization of company-owned and rented tools and equipment by craft personnel on-site.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment by craft teams.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager/Fabricator for tool and equipment needs and repairs.
  1. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution (Field Focus):

  • Proactively identify and resolve construction-related issues and challenges at the field level, minimizing impact on schedule and budget.
  • Provide practical and effective solutions to on-site problems encountered by craft personnel.
  • Escalate complex issues or those requiring significant resource adjustments to the Project Manager and Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in a relevant craft (e.g., carpentry) preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience as a Foreman or Superintendent in commercial construction, with experience managing craft personnel.
  • Experience in cleanroom, radiation shielding, or similar specialty construction environments is highly desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment relevant to AVM Group’s divisions.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations (OSHA) and quality control principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate craft personnel effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities at the field level.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to various project sites as required.
