Mechanical Project Engineer

Role Overview: A Mechanical Project Engineer within AVM Group’s Shielding and Cleanroom Divisions will focus on Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, and Technical Leadership. The primary value is derived from high-level component design (SolidWorks), leading technical design reviews, and collaborating with controls engineering to deliver sophisticated shielding and cleanroom solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Design & Product Development (Primary Focus)

  • SolidWorks Design Leadership: Serve as the primary mechanical engineer for AVM Group’s proprietary components and systems. Utilize SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD) for complex part modeling, large assembly management, and the creation of detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • Mechatronics & Controls Collaboration: Work closely with Controls Engineers during design development to integrate mechanical systems with electrical components, including the selection and mounting of motors, actuators, and sensors.
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform structural and mechanical analysis (e.g., stress, deflection, thermal) on components to support continuous product improvement, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation: Lead the engineering change process, documenting design modifications and updates in SolidWorks to ensure manufacturing accuracy.

2. Technical Leadership & Design Reviews

  • Lead Design Reviews: Serve as the technical lead for all internal and external design reviews. proactively identify areas for improvement in design and manufacturability before release for fabrication.
  • Manage Outside Design Personnel: Act as the primary technical interface for external design partners and consultants. Communicate design standards and expectations, and rigorously review third-party drawings and calculations to ensure alignment with project performance goals.
  • Technical Compliance: Review vendor technical data to ensure compliance with design requirements and regulatory standards, particularly for radiation attenuation and ISO cleanroom environments.

3. Project Logistics & Specialty Procurement Support

  • Procurement Assistance: Assist Project Managers (PMs) by taking technical ownership of the procurement process for specialized mechanical components (e.g., hinges, latches, seals, and actuators).
  • Order Management: Provide Project Managers with detailed specifications for ordering, review vendor quotes for technical accuracy, and track order status to proactively address issues that could impact the schedule.
  • Constructability Oversight: Provide technical input during the design phase to optimize the installation process and ensure the physical installed condition matches the engineered specifications.

Qualifications and Competencies

Technical Skills

  • MANDATORY: Advanced Proficiency in SolidWorks for component modeling, complex assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings.
  • Required: Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, thermal analysis) and the ability to interpret engineering specifications.
  • Required: Familiarity with electromechanical integration and working alongside Controls/Automation engineers.
  • Preferred: Basic working knowledge of Revit/BIM for reference and coordination (not for primary design).

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, specifically in the design of mechanical systems for specialized equipment, enclosures, or cleanroom environments.

Key Competencies

  • Mechanical Design & Analysis (SolidWorks)
  • Leading Technical Design Reviews
  • Vendor & External Personnel Management
  • Cross-functional Collaboration (Controls & Project Management)

Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider candidates regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
